A conversation about deliveries in 2008

The following is a recorded phone conversation between two of the Portland Pedal Power founders, Ken Wetherell and Neil Robinson. We talked about our experience with the delivery service, challenges, and some ideas for expanding the service and vision in 2008. Of particular focus is our desire to create further excitement and participation among our fellow members of People's Food Co-op.

Bloomington Pedal Power is born

In late Novemember, we received a voicemail from a man in Bloomington, Indiana wanting to talk about our bicycle delivery service and his interest in starting his own. He even asked if we would mind if he called it "Bloomington Pedal Power". Naturally, we were honored. Check out the email we received from Chad this week. This is great news. Best of success Chad!

Hello Ken! I just wanted to update you on the status of bloomingtonpedalpower.com

We are up and running, and I am now in the process of acquiring clients to keep it afloat. So far the response from people has been really positive. On my first official day of business (monday, january 14, 2008) I actually received a call from somebody who had seen the website! He was calling from a town 75 miles away, and wanted to pick my brain about plans for a startup delivery service. I was happy to oblige him, and he actually gave me the name of his brother, who is an attorney here in town (we are offering courier services as well)...so, a good start on my first day. Today I picked up the business cards, postcards, and flyers from the printer, and tomorrow, I begin my canvassing in earnest. So, just wanted to keep in touch and let you know that here in the hills of south-central Indiana, pedal power is gaining momentum. How's things with you and PPP? Hope all is well,

Chad

PDX Pedicabs at New Years Day Ride 2008

The sun was trying its best to shine bright for the New Years Day Ride in Portland today. It was great to be out with so many others for an easy ride to bring in 2008. Lots of smiles.

One of the cool highlights was seeing the folks from PDX Pedicabs out in force. They have six awesome pedicabs that are made in Colorado and plan to bring in more. We'll certainly be watching and cheering them on. Way to go guys. Best of success in 2008 and beyond!

Pilot project wrap-up and next steps

Our pilot project officially ended on Nov 1st after many deliveries and satisfied customers. We are continuing to offer our services to shoppers of People's Food Co-op on weekdays with fair warning and prior arrangement.

Do the oncoming rains have you wondering, "would it be easier for me to shop if the PPP gang would help me get the groceries home?" If so, call us. :)

So what's next?... We are working to establish a riders network and to formalize agreements with businesses to serve. Thanks to those of you who have expressed an interest in being part of the riders network and to the businesses and organizations who have contacted us.

A new delivery for a new delivery!

We are thrilled to have completed our first combined shopping and delivery service for our newest customer and one of Portland's newest citizens. He is less than a week old! His mom said she was very happy with the first shopping and delivery service. The Portland Pedal Power team are proud to be serving this family.

The fee for the combined shopping/delivery service is $10, depending on location.

A big thanks to our new customer and his mom for calling Portland Pedal Power!
